RICHMOND, Ky. –
Sarah Mitchell recorded 18 kills and only three errors to lead Eastern Kentucky University to a 3-0 win over visiting Austin Peay on Thursday at the Rick Erdmann Olympic Sports Training Center.

EKU will host ASUN preseason favorite Lipscomb on Friday at 6 p.m.  There will be a FREE soft pretzel bar for the first 50 fans in attendance.

The Colonels (10-4, 1-0 ASUN) beat APSU by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21.

Mitchell hit .357 for the match and also had 10 digs and two blocks.  Carson Ledford contributed eight kills, had only one error and hit .636.  Josie Schmitendorf finished with 17 digs, moving past Becky Galati (1,478) into seventh place on EKU's career digs list with 1,493.

The Colonels had a 14-13 lead in the first set before out-scoring the Governors 6-1 to build a 6-point cushion.  Paige Wagers had two kills during the run, her second made it 20-14.  An APSU service error ended the opener 25-20.

After a kill by Austin Peay's Anna Rita, EKU trailed 17-16 in the second set.  However, a run of four unanswered turned that 1-point deficit into a 3-point lead for the home team.  Madi Tolzman's service ace and a kill by Mitchell made it 20-17.  Ledford's kill gave the Colonels set-point at 24-21.  AG Vandagriff finished it off with a kill for a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

EKU scored three of the first four points of the third set and never trailed.  A kill from freshman Emma Closurdo put her squad up six, 11-5.  The Colonels were ahead by four, 18-14, after a kill from Mitchell.  The Governors rallied to get within one, 21-20, on a kill from Payton Deidesheimer, but EKU scored the next two.  Mitchell's final kill of the match won the set, 25-21.

Rita finished with 10 kills, only one error, a .562 attack percentage and five blocks for Austin Peay (1-11, 0-1 ASUN).  The Governors out-blocked the Colonels 11-3.
