ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior libero Josie Schmitendorf was chosen as the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
 
In three matches against Texas Tech, Iona and Boston College at the Boston College Invitational, Schmitendorf averaged 4.20 digs and 1.0 assists per set.  She also had one ace.
 
The Huntley, Illinois native posted a team-high 10 digs against Texas Tech.  She contributed a match-best 21 digs in EKU's sweep of Iona.  With 11 digs against Boston College, Schmitendorf moved to 10th place on EKU's career digs list with 1,297.
 
Through the first weekend of the volleyball season, Schmitendorf is second in the ASUN in digs per set.
 
EKU will host the Geri Polvino Invitational (GPI) starting Friday at the Rick Erdmann Olympic Sports Training Center (OSTC).  The invitational will include six matches over two days.  The Colonels will face old rival Morehead State on Friday at 1 p.m. and Radford at 7 p.m. on Friday.  EKU closes out the GPI on Saturday against Youngstown State at 1:30 p.m.
