LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Behind a record-setting performance from junior midfielder
Chiara Premoli, the Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team completed a regular-season sweep of Bellarmine with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Premoli became EKU's all-time leader in career assists, setting up the game-winner against the Knights in the 86th minute. Since joining the program in 2023, the Broni, Pavia, Italy, native has tallied 15 assists, seven of them this season.
The Colonels scored twice in the second half to secure their first comeback win since last year's ASUN Tournament against FGCU.
Sophomore forward
Ana Manning netted the equalizer in the 76th minute, followed by senior midfielder
Maddy Murphy's go-ahead goal in the 86th minute to seal the victory.
With Sunday's win, EKU (9-2-3, 4-1-1 ASUN) improved to 13 points in conference play and sits firmly in second place in the ASUN Gold Division behind Lipscomb.
The Colonels are now tied for the league lead with nine overall victories and rank fourth in the ASUN's overall standings.
Bellarmine (8-4-2, 2-4-0 ASUN) controlled much of the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break after McKenzie Carle's goal in the 19th minute.
The Knights maintained their advantage late into the second half before EKU's attack broke through. Sophomore
Ella Grode flicked a ball into the box to
Avery May, whose shot attempt deflected and left the net open for Manning's putback equalizer in the 77th.
Eight minutes later, the Colonels went ahead as Premoli and May combined on a pair of crisp one-touch passes to find Murphy, who buried the decisive shot from eight yards out into the lower-left corner.
EKU's defense held strong over the final minutes to secure the crucial three points to open a three-match road trip.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan LeVasseur, ranked No. 39 among freshmen nationally by TopDrawerSoccer earlier in the week, finished with eight saves to earn the seventh win of her young career.
EKU returns to action next Thursday at North Alabama. The match is scheduled to kickoff under the lights at 8:00 p.m. ET and can be viewed on ESPN+.
