JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team ended its road trip to Florida with a 3-0 loss to first place Jacksonville on Saturday.
The Dolphins (17-3, 8-0 ASUN) won by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20.
Jacksonville scored the first five points of the first set and seven of the first eight. Haley Yount's kill made it 12-5. EKU closed to within two, 17-15, on an ace from
Carson Ledford. However, the Dolphins closed out the opener with a 7-1 run to claim a 25-17 victory.
The Colonels (13-7, 5-3 ASUN) took a 6-3 lead in the second set on a kill from
Addison Burke and a bad set by the Dolphins. Jacksonville took the lead, 15-14, on a kill from Yount. From there, neither team led by more than two until an ace from Jade Cobos put the home team ahead 23-20. A block from Madison Novak and Alija Heins ended the set and handed JU a 2-0 lead.
Jacksonville jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the third set. The Colonels strung together a 10-3 run of their own and closed to within three, 18-15, on a service error. EKU never got any closer.
Burke and
Emilee Hill finished with a team-high six kills each.
Cassidy Trahan led all players with 20 digs.
Yount finished with nine kills and no errors for the Dolphins.
The Colonels hit .070 for the match while JU posted a .228 attack percentage. Jacksonville out-blocked the visitors 14-3.
EKU will make a second straight weekend conference road trip next weekend with stops at North Alabama on Friday and Central Arkansas on Sunday.
