Women’s Soccer Suffers 3-2 Loss at Central Arkansas Sunday

Shirey, Manning Recorded Goals in Comeback Effort

CONWAY, Ark. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team lost to Central Arkansas 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

EKU (9-3-4, 4-2-2 ASUN) remains at 14 points in the Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division standings with two matches left in the regular season.

The Colonels' goals came from forwards Silvia Shirey and Ana Manning, scored in the 45th and 63rd minutes, respectively.

Shirey's goal was the second of her career and her second in as many matches. The freshman from Nashville, Tennessee, capped a standout week after her highlight goal at North Alabama was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays on Oct. 16 and across several NCAA social media platforms.

Manning's goal midway through the second half was her fourth of the season and ninth of her career.

Central Arkansas (6-8-2, 3-4-2 ASUN) jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice before the 26th minute mark, including a penalty kick in the sixth minute following a handball in the box.

Shirey cut the deficit to 2-1 just 30 seconds before halftime, giving the Colonels momentum heading into the break. The goal was double assisted by Ella Grode and Emma Wolf.

The Bears extended their lead to 3-1 in the 50th minute when Sophia Backstrom placed a shot beyond the reach of EKU goalkeeper Jordan LeVasseur.

EKU continued to battle, with Lauren Link delivering a cross that found Manning for a sliding finish in the 63rd minute. Despite the late push, the Colonels were unable to complete the comeback.

LeVasseur (7-2-4) took her second loss of the season after allowing a career-high three goals. The Michigan native made seven saves, tying her fifth-highest total of the year.

EKU returns home for its final home stand of the regular season, beginning Wednesday against Austin Peay at 4 p.m. ET.
