Colonels Open Homestand With Comeback Win Against Lipscomb

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team began a stretch of three straight home matches with a 3-1 victory over Lipscomb on Friday at the Olympic Sports Training Center.
 
EKU (16-7, 8-3 ASUN) won by scores of 15-25, 26-24, 25-20 and 25-21.
 
Carson Ledford finished with eight kills and only one error in 13 attempts for a .538 attack percentage.  The senior also had nine blocks.  Addison Burke contributed 15 kills and 10 digs with a .297 attack percentage.  AG Hynes and Amanda Mack had 10 kills each.
 
Lipscomb (10-11, 6-5 ASUN) scored the first four points, and six of the first seven, in the first set.  The Bisons led the entire way.  EKU closed within three on three occasions in the middle of the set but never got any closer.
 
The score remained close for much of the second set.  Lipscomb erased a late 4-point deficit with a 5-0 run.  Berkley Mischler's kill gave the visitors a 21-20 lead.  The Colonels halted the run with a kill from Ledford to tie it at 21-21.  The Bisons scored two straight to break a 22-22 tie and reach set point.  EKU answered with two straight.  An attack error tied the set at 24-24.  The Colonels finished it off with two more points.  Burke's kill won the set and tied the match.
 
EKU erased a 10-4 deficit in the third.  An ace from Lydia Stephens tied it at 12-12.  A block from Hynes and Ledford gave the Colonels the lead, 13-12.  Two straight attack errors by Lipscomb broke a 17-17 tie.  A kill from Mack pushed it to a 3-point lead, 20-17.  Ledford's kill ended the set and gave the home team a 2-1 lead.
 
After the Bisons tied the fourth set 1-1, EKU scored the next two and led the rest of the way.  A kill from Ledford handed the Colonels a 12-6 lead.  Lipscomb battled back to within one five times, but never got over the hump.  After the visitors made it 22-21 with a block from Courtney Jones, EKU scored the final three points of the match.  Caitlyn Flees and Hynes ended it with a block.
 
The Colonels hit .226 for the match while limiting Lipscomb to a .179 attack percentage.  EKU had a 16-13 edge in blocks.
 
Jones had 12 kills and three blocks for the Bisons.  Ella Durham led the team with 13 kills.
 
EKU will play Austin Peay on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.  Kids Day is scheduled for Saturday.  There will be a foam finger giveaway, Kona Ice and a post-match autograph session with the team.
