RICHMOND, Ky. – Five Colonels scored in double figures to lead the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team to a 95-41 win over Transylvania University in the 2025-26 season opener Monday night at the Seabury Center.
 
Sophomore guard 
Liz Freihofer led all scorers with 19 points, knocking down a career-high six 3-pointers. Freshman guard 
Kenleigh Woods impressed in her collegiate debut with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and four assists.
 
Senior guard 
Althea Kara Angeles added 12 points, while guards 
Ndidiamaka Ndukwe and 
Madison Lewis chipped in 10 each in their EKU debuts.
 
EKU (1-0) shot 57 percent (37-65) from the field, hit 13 threes, outrebounded the Pioneers 42-29, and finished with 25 assists for its highest shooting performance since last November.
Despite a slow start that saw Transylvania take an early 11-4 lead, the Colonels responded with a 12-4 run sparked by made 3-pointers from Freihofer and Woods, along with layups from Lewis and senior forward 
Joseana Vaz, to take a 16-15 lead late in the first quarter.
 
From there, the game swung entirely in EKU's favor. The Colonels held Transylvania (0-1) to just 10 points combined in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Pioneers 33-8 and 25-2 in those frames. The teams tied 16-16 in the fourth as both benches saw extended action.
 
EKU pushed its lead to as many as 60 halfway through the fourth on Freihofer's sixth 3-pointer. Sophomore forward 
Jasmine Jordan tallied eight points in her NCAA debut and junior guard 
Love Mays scored three points in her first game action since November 2024.
 
Sierra Kemelgor led Transylvania with eight points. The Pioneers shot 26 percent (14-53) from the field, 17 percent (4-24) from 3-point range, and committed 22 turnovers.
