Fourth-Quarter Drought Sends EKU to 75-50 Loss Against Marshall

Ndidiamaka Ndukwe Leads Colonels With 15 Points

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University battled Marshall for three quarters but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 75-50 loss Sunday afternoon at the Clive M. Beck Center.

With the setback, EKU fell to 7-3 and has dropped back-to-back games late in the non-conference schedule with three contests remaining before Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe led the Colonels with 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting, knocking down three 3-pointers for her second-highest scoring output of the season.

Sophomore guard Liz Freihofer extended her double figure scoring streak to 10 games, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds in 38 minutes. Freshman guard Kenleigh Woods also reached double figures with 10 points on 40 percent shooting.

Senior guard Althea Kara Angeles dished out eight assists to lead EKU, which totaled 16 assists in the game. The Colonels kept pace with Marshall (9-3) for 30 minutes but went 0-for-12 from the field in the final quarter, dropping their shooting percentage to 38 percent (20-of-52).

Marshall held a 21-20 edge after the first quarter as Timaya Lewis-Eutsey sparked the Thundering Herd offensively. EKU countered with timely perimeter shooting, including a late 3-pointer to pull within one, though Marshall's work on the offensive glass maintained the slim lead.

Lewis-Eutsey would go on to lead all scorers with 26 points on 12-for-16 shooting, setting a season-high mark. She finished putting up a game score rating of +19.2 and +23 efficiency, measuring her high-productivity on the floor.

The Herd extended the advantage in the second quarter, outscoring EKU 17-15 to take a 38-35 lead into halftime. Marshall used a pair of 3-pointers and strong interior play to build an 11-point lead, while EKU stayed within striking distance through balanced scoring and ball movement.

EKU answered in the third quarter, matching Marshall in a 20-15 period. The Colonels briefly took the lead midway through the quarter behind transition baskets by Nduke, Freihofer, and defensive pressure, but Marshall responded with timely shooting to carry a 58-50 lead into the final frame.

Marshall closed the game with a decisive fourth-quarter run, holding EKU scoreless while scoring 17 points to secure the victory.

EKU returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 17, traveling to face No. 22 Louisville inside the KFC Yum! Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
