Women’s Basketball Enters Holiday Break with 20-Point Win Over Presbyterian

Kenleigh Woods Scores 16 as Five Colonels Reach Double Figures

CLINTON, S.C. – Five players scored in double figures as the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid with an 81-61 victory over Presbyterian College on Friday night at the Templeton Center.

EKU improved to 8-4 overall and heads into the Christmas break back in the win column with one game remaining in the non-conference slate.

Freshman Kenleigh Woods, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Week, led the Colonels with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. The Ashland, Kentucky, native added three rebounds and three assists.

Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe followed with 15 points, marking her second time reaching that total in the last three games.

Upperclassmen Joseana Vaz and Althea Kara Angeles chipped in 13 points apiece, while junior forward Kailani Lindsey rounded out the scoring effort with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, her third double-figure performance of the season.

As a team, EKU shot 51 percent (29 of 57) from the field, its fourth game this season shooting 50 percent or better. The Colonels also finished with advantages in rebounds (40-32), defensive rebounds (28), points in the paint (44) and assists (13).

Presbyterian (2-10) was led by Morgan Boyd's 15 points. She did most of her damage from the free throw line, going 7-for-9 from the stripe in the team's seventh consecutive loss.

EKU built an early 18-13 lead after the opening quarter behind efficient perimeter scoring from Woods and Angeles. Presbyterian stayed within striking distance behind Boyd's interior play, but the Colonels controlled the tempo.

The Colonels widened the gap in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Hose 19-10 to take a 37-23 advantage into halftime. Ndukwe provided a spark by attacking the paint, while EKU's defense limited quality looks and forced turnovers that led to transition opportunities.

Presbyterian matched EKU with 20 points in the third quarter, as Boyd continued to pace the offense and Allie Sykes connected on timely shots. Woods responded with key baskets to help EKU maintain a 57-39 cushion entering the final period.

EKU closed with its strongest quarter, scoring 24 points in the final 10 minutes to put the game out of reach. Vaz and Lindsey added timely buckets, and Angeles finished strong at the rim as the Colonels maintained control to secure the 20-point, 81-61, victory.

EKU will take a nine-day Christmas break before returning home to face Hampton on December 29. Fans can purchase tickets starting at just $5 online here for the 1 p.m. ET tipoff.
