Colonels Score Final Six Points To Beat Austin Peay

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
In a close battle against Austin Peay, EKU secured its third consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference win on Saturday by a final score of 88-82.

George Kimble III led the Colonels with 27 points, four rebounds, and four assists, including several clutch plays that put EKU in the lead.  Montavious Myrick ended the game with 14 points and seven rebounds.

The Colonels (12-11, 6-4 ASUN) started off hot with a dunk by Myrick to secure the first two points of the game against the Governors (9-14, 4-6 ASUN).  EKU held a solid lead for the majority of the first period, but a 3-pointer with one minute left by APSU cut the gap to 45-44 going into halftime.

The second period remained a back-and-forth battle with a total of 16 lead changes and four ties.

With just 2:00 left and down one-point, Kimble hit a 3-pointer to pull the Colonels ahead, 82-80.  That play was quickly followed by an APSU jump shot, tying the score once again.  The Colonels responded strongly with an alley-oop to Myrick, assisted by Kimble, to steal the lead back with just 1:16 left on the clock.

The Colonels would hold the lead for the last minute, making all four free throws.

Sai Witt led the APSU roster with 29 points and six rebounds. The Governors outscored the Colonels 46-38 in the paint and had 27 total points off the bench.

Jordan Crawford came off the bench for EKU and scored 11 total points with three made 3-pointers at crucial moments.

The Colonels hit the road next week for two ASUN match-ups in Florida.  On Thursday, EKU will face Florida Gulf Coast University at 7 p.m. ET in Fort Myers.
