Scearce Homers In Third Straight Game, But EKU Falls At WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –
Julius Scearce hit a home run in a third consecutive game, but Eastern Kentucky University lost 11-3 at Western Kentucky on Tuesday.
 
WKU grabbed the early lead on Ryan Wideman's 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
 
The Colonels came right back.  A sacrifice bunt from Mauri Bejarano in the second cut the deficit in half.  In the third, Scearce went yard for the third straight game.  With two outs and Tait Nunnally on first, Scearce lifted a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right field to put his team on top 3-2.
 
Scearce's other two home runs came in the final two games of a 3-game series at Ole Miss over the weekend.
 
The Hilltoppers tied it and then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.  Carlos Vasquez drove in a run with a double to right center.  Ethan Lizama followed with a 2-run home run down the right field line for a 5-3 lead.  After the next two batters were retired.  Kyle Hayes hit a solo shot down the left field line.  Thomas Marsala made it back-to-back homers with a ball hit over the wall in right center for a 4-run advantage.
 
WKU added another run in the sixth and three in the seventh.
 
Scearce finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Jay Douglas had two hits in three at bats, including a double.
 
Wideman had a 4-for-5 game with three runs and three RBIS.
 
The Colonels will play three games in Carrollton, Georgia this weekend.  EKU will face Mississippi Valley at 5 p.m. ET on Friday and face MVSU again at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday.  The final game of the weekend will be against host West Georgia on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
