CARROLLTON, Ga. – Eastern Kentucky University lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at West Georgia on Saturday, dropping game one 5-4 and falling 14-4, in seven innings, in game two.

In game one, EKU took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from
Nazir Mendez in the second inning, and then went in front 3-2 in the sixth on a 2-run double off the bat of Mendez. It was the first home run of the season for the junior first baseman.

Jackson Ginther scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 4-2. The Wolves answered with three runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Blake Bradford homered to cut the deficit to one. Luke Johnson's 2-run single put UWG in front 5-4.

Mendez went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.Â

Johnson finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the Wolves. West Georgia starter Lane Pearson struck out 13 in six innings on the mound. He allowed three runs off two hits and walked three.

In game two, the Colonels took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from
Julius Scearce in the first inning. The Wolves came back and seized control with eight runs in the bottom of the second. Carter Dierdorf had a 2-run triple and Brady McDevitt drove in two with a single through the right side.

EKU tried to claw back into it with three runs in the third.Â
AJ Groeneveld had a 2-run single.Â
Diego Alana's RBI single to right made it 8-4.

UWG (7-3) pulled away again with three more in the fourth. Bradford had an RBI double and McDevitt hit a 2-run home run to make it 11-4.

McDevitt was 2-for-4 with a run and four RBIs. Bradford was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Groeneveld had a 2-for-3 game with two runs and two RBIs for EKU (0-11).

The Colonels will play a pair of games against Kentucky next week, starting Tuesday in Richmond at 6 p.m. The two teams will meet in Lexington on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
