HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Nazir Mendez gave Eastern Kentucky University an early lead with a 2-run home run in the first inning, but Northern Kentucky scored the next 15 runs on its way to a 15-2 victory in seven innings on Tuesday in Highland Heights, Kentucky.

With one out in the top of the first inning,
Hayden Duffield singled to center field. After a fielder's choice, Mendez hit his third home run of the season. The 2-run shot over the wall in right center gave the Colonels a 2-0 lead.

The Norse tied it in the bottom of the first on back-to-back solo home runs from Logen Devenport and Gabe Miranda. NKU took the lead on Tyler Shaneyfel's RBI single up the middle in the second and then scored seven times in the third inning to pull away.

Mendez finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for the Colonels (0-16).

Miranda had a 5-for-5 game with two home runs, four runs and six RBIs for Northern Kentucky (9-6).
