WKU Snaps EKU Winning Streak

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University saw its 3-game winning streak come to an end with a 14-8 loss to Western Kentucky on Wednesday at Earle Combs Stadium.

WKU (20-1) wasted little time getting going offensively.  The third batter of the game, Ryan Wideman, hit a 3-run home run and the Hilltoppers led the rest of the game.
 
EKU scored in the bottom of the fourth on Colby Ott's solo home run.  It was his second of the season and closed the gap to 4-1.
 
The Hilltoppers pulled away with five runs in the fifth to make it 9-1.
 
Nazir Mendez had a 2-run single for the Colonels (3-18) as part of a 3-run bottom of the fifth.
 
Ott finished the night 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.  Mendez was 2-for-3 with two driven in.
 
Wideman had a 5-for-5 game with a walk, three runs, three RBIs and four stolen bases.  Reid Howard was 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs.
 
The Colonels will wrap up their 8-game home stand with a 3-game series against North Alabama starting Friday at 7 p.m.
