Marshall Scores In The 10th To Beat EKU

Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Seven Eastern Kentucky University pitchers limited Marshall to one run through nine innings, but the Thundering Herd scored in the bottom of the 10th for a 2-1 victory on Tuesday in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Colonels manufactured the first run of the game in the top of the first, the only run either team scored through the first six innings.  AJ Groeneveld was hit by a pitch to start the game and went first to third on a single up the middle from Diego Alana.  A ground out to the right side by Tait Nunnally was enough to bring Groeneveld home.

EKU starter Christian Howe pitched three shutout innings in his first collegiate start.  He allowed one hit and walked one.  Double plays turned by the Colonels in the second and third innings helped Howe keep the Herd off the board.

Hayden Collins, Addison Stockham and Mitchell Berger followed Howe on the mound with one scoreless inning each.  The trio did not allow a hit.

Marshall finally scored in the bottom of the seventh.  After a leadoff single and stolen base from Maika Niu, Ethan Murdoch tied the game with a single through the left side.

The Thundering Herd loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning, but EKU's third double play of the game sent the game into extra innings.

Cam Harthan started the 10th with an infield single.  With one out, Eddie Leon doubled down the left field line to end the game.

Three Colonels had one hit each in the game.  Nunnally finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Murdoch had a 2-for-4 game with an RBI.  Leon's only hit in the contest was the game-winner.

The Colonels are scheduled to play at Austin Peay this weekend with Friday's series opener set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
