RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team held its second scrimmage on Saturday morning, the final scrimmage ahead of the team's Spring Game on Saturday, April 26, presented by CG Bank.
The Colonels' defense got after it right from the start, forcing two, three-and-outs before a combined simulated sack by
Tommy Ziesmer and
Gabe Fletcher closed out the third drive of the scrimmage.
The offense responded on the sixth drive of the scrimmage, putting together a methodical 14-play drive capped off by sophomore running back
Brady Hensley, who powered through two defenders at the goal line on a 10-yard touchdown run.
The defense got the offense back two drives later as newcomer Charles Ingram IV jumped a route on the right sideline for an interception, marking the first turnover of the scrimmage.
It was more of the same on the next two drives as defensive back
Kevin Ford had interceptions on back-to-back drives, both coming on deep passes near the sideline.
In the red zone period,
Jackson House hauled in an eight-yard pass in the back of the end zone for an offensive score, and on the next full drive,
Jalen Montgomery punched in a one-yard touchdown run to cap off a nine-play, 35-yard drive.
The defense got the final word on the day, though, as defensive lineman
Darius Sterling earned a sack on 4
th and goal from the four to close out the scrimmage.
Next week will be the final week of spring camp for EKU, culminating with Suits for Seniors on Friday night, April 25, at Chenault Vineyards, followed by the Spring Game on Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m.
