Softball Set for Second Series Against Central Arkansas

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University softball team continues their road stint as they head to Conway, AR for their second series against the Central Arkansas Bears.

The Colonels (26-9, 7-1 ASUN) come into the weekend having won all three of their previous ASUN series as well as a midweek doubleheader against Morehead State.

In the first series, the teams battled in an eleven-inning marathon of a game one before the Colonels took the win with a walkoff single in the bottom of the eleventh. Game two flipped the script as the Colonels ran rampant on the basepaths, run ruling the Bears in five innings, 11-1. Game three of the series was canceled due to lightning and rain.

The Colonels lead the overall series with UCA at 6-3. UCA took the first three meetings between the two schools, but the Colonels have won the last six.

The schedule for the series is set for a doubleheader on Sunday at 2 PM and 4:30 PM ET and the series finale on Monday at 1 PM ET.

Sunday's doubleheader will be available for streaming on ESPN+, and live stats will be available for all three games.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

The Bears (17-20, 5-3 ASUN) come into the series having won their previous two conference series, sweeping North Alabama and downing Austin Peay, 2-1. UCA has also picked up a midweek win against Tulsa, but fell last time out to No. 18 Mississippi, 0-8.

Bailie Runner and Julia Petty have made the most appearances in the circle for the Bears at 22 & 20 with 16 & 13 starts, respectively. Runner pitched a complete 10.0 innings in the teams' first meeting this season in a pitching duel with Maddi Rutan before Rutan gave herself the win in the 11th with a walkoff single.

Madge Layfield leads the Bear pitching staff in ERA at 5.76 while Petty leads the team in strikeouts and allowed batting average at 65 and .266.

Kylie Griffin is the leading batter for UCA, posting a team leading batting average of .389 and a slugging percentage of .496. Griffin also leads UCA in stolen bases at 11-for-12 as well as total bases. Lilly Hood leads the team in RBIs with 26, and Mya January leads in home runs with four.

LAST TIME OUT

The Colonel offense was firing on all cylinders and then some as they recorded 15 runs in both games of a doubleheader against Morehead State, winning 15-9 and 15-1 in five innings.

Lilly Davis and Sharyn Duncan both recorded their first home runs of the season in game one while Rutan hit a triple and three-straight home runs - including a grand slam - in game two as the Colonels totaled five home runs on the day.

Victoria Byrum (9-1) and Tayteum Vigansky (4-0) both picked up wins in the circle. In game two, the Colonel pitching staff combined to allow just four hits and one run in the near shutout.
