RICHMOND, Ky. – On Monday, Eastern Kentucky University head football coach
Walt Wells officially announced the promotion of
Isaac McClain to the role of tight ends coach for the Colonels.
McClain earns the promotion after joining the coaching staff last season as the assistant offensive line coach, as EKU returned to the FCS Playoffs for the second time in three seasons with an 8-4 regular season record.
"Very excited for Isaac and our program," said Wells on the promotion. "Isaac has done a great job and did well with our TE group this Spring. It's great when we can promote from within. Isaac knows our players and staff and will do a great job."
In McClain's one season working with the offensive line, the Colonels rushed for 2,422 yards and 22 touchdowns, the most in program history since the 2019 season.
Before coming to Richmond, McClain spent three seasons as the offensive line coach at Santa Barbara City College in California.
The highlight of those three seasons came in 2022 as the Vaqueros went 10-1 on the year, including a 2022 SBCC Beach Bowl win over Desert Community College.
Before getting into coaching, McClain played college football first at SBCC from 2015-16, before transferring to New Mexico State, where he was a lineman on the 2017 Arizona Bowl-winning team for the Aggies.
He is originally from Manteca, California.
