Colonels Beat Northern Kentucky To Win Geri Polvino Invitational

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team beat Northern Kentucky University, 3-2, in the final match of the 2025 Geri Polvino Invitational on Saturday.
 
EKU won by scores of 28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 14-25 and 15-11.
 
AG Hynes was chosen as the GPI MVP and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.  Carson Ledford and Cassidy Trahan were also chosen to the all-tournament team.
 
Hynes finished with 14 kills and a .345 attack percentage in the win over the Norse (3-6).  Amanda Mack added 13 kills and three blocks.  Ledford had six blocks to go along with five kills.
 
EKU tied the first set at 23-23 on a block from Caitlyn Flees and Emilee Hill, and then reached set-point on a kill from Flees.  The Norse then had two set-points.  The Colonels scored the final three of the opener.  Mack tied it with a kill.  A block from Mack and Ledford made it 27-26.  An ace from freshman Trahan ended the first.
 
The Colonels led for much of the second set before the NKU went in front 21-20 on a kill from Sydney Bray.  Two more points stretched the margin to three, 23-20.  The Norse took the set and evened the match on a kill from Ivey Stocks.
 
Northern Kentucky led 14-12 in the third set before the Colonels went on a set-changing run.  An attack error and a kill from Flees began the 9-2 spurt.  A kill from Cooper Abney capped it and handed the home team a 21-16 lead.  A kill from Hynes and a NKU error ended the set and gave EKU a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Norse scored eight of the first nine points in the fourth set and never looked back. 
 
After breaking a 1-1 tie in the fifth, the Colonels led the rest of the way.  A block from Flees gave EKU a 3-1 lead.  A kill by Addison Burke made it 7-3.  A block by Ledford and Mack pushed the margin to five, 12-7.  Hynes finished the match with a kill.
 
Allison Risley had 15 kills for Northern Kentucky.
 
NKU had eight more kills, two more aces and out-blocked EKU 13-9.
 
The Colonels will face Cincinnati in Muncie, Indiana on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
