MUNCIE, Ind. – Addison Burke and
Amanda Mack set new career highs for kills but the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to the University of Cincinnati on Friday in a match played at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

The Bearcats (8-2) took the match by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-27 and 25-13.

Burke finished with a career-best 19 kills. The freshman also had 10 digs. Mack, a sophomore who played last season at Cincinnati, notched a career-high 16 kills.

With the first set tied 20-20, the Colonels (7-4) scored back-to-back points on a kill from Burke and a block by
AG Hynes and
Carson Ledford. Ledford's kill moments later gave EKU a 23-21 lead. However, the Bearcats rallied to score the final four points and take the opener.

The Colonels took an 8-7 lead in the second set on a kill from Mack. However, UC responded with a 5-1 run to seize control and led comfortably the rest of the set.

A Cincinnati attack error broke a 23-23 tie in the third set and gave EKU set-point. The Colonels took set point again at 25-24 on a kill from Ledford, and again at 26-25 on a kill from Mack. Finally, a kill from Burke ended the set, 27-25.

Trailing by one early in the fourth set, the Bearcats rolled off four straight to take an 8-5 advantage and led the rest of the way.

Cincinnati out-blocked the Colonels 14-5 and hit .329 for the match, making only 12 attack errors.
Â
Gretchen Sigman led Cincinnati with a match-best 20 kills on 31 attempts. She made just three errors for a .548 attack percentage.
