EKU Women’s Basketball Defeats Queens, 103-49, Remains Perfect in ASUN Play

Ndukwe Scores 1,000th Career Point as Colonels Record Largest Conference Win in Program History

RICHMOND, Ky. – Complete domination! The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team had its way defeating Queens University 103-49 on Saturday at Baptist Health Arena to move to 2-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
 
With the win, EKU (11-4, 2-0 ASUN) recorded the largest margin of victory over a conference opponent in program history, a 54-point result.
 
Five Colonels scored in double figures, led by freshman guard Kenleigh Woods, who poured in a career-high 18 points to pace all scorers. Woods knocked down four 3-pointers, including a halfcourt buzzer-beater to end the first quarter.
 
Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe added 16 points and reached a career milestone in the opening period, scoring her 1,000th career point at the NCAA level.
 
Senior forward Joseana Vaz posted her fourth career double-double, all coming this season, with 17 points and 10 rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting.
 
Sophomore guard Liz Freihofer finished with 10 points for her 31st career game in double figures, while sophomore forward Jasmine Jordan rounded out the scoring with 10 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting effort, including two 3-pointers.
 
EKU shot 56.7 percent (38-of-67) from the field and connected on 13 made 3-pointers, tying for the sixth-most in a single game in program history. The Colonels outrebounded Queens 48-31, scored 44 points in the paint, 29 points in transition, forced 17 turnovers, and dished out 20 or more assists for the fourth time this season.
 
Queens (7-6, 1-1 ASUN) was held to 13 made field goals and shot just 22 percent from the floor. Jermany Mapp led the Royals with 14 points.

EKU took control early, building a 19–11 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting and active defense. Freshman guard Kenleigh Woods scored six points in the opening period as the Colonels held Queens to limited perimeter looks. Ndukwe also logged her 1,000th career point in the period, scoring five points off a made 3-pointer and fastbreak layup.
 
EKU broke the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Royals 34–9 to take a commanding 33-point, 53–20, lead into halftime. Woods reached double figures before the break, while the Colonels capitalized on turnovers and dominated the glass. Queens struggled offensively in the period, shooting just 21 percent from the floor, which spelled doom for the visitors.
 
The Colonels maintained control in the third quarter, extending the lead by winning the period 20–13. Queens showed improved offensive rhythm coming out of halftime, led by Jermany Mapp's interior scoring, but EKU continued to spread the scoring and limit second-chance opportunities to lead by 40 points, 73-33.
 
EKU closed the game with a 30–16 fourth quarter, continuing to push the tempo despite extended rotations going deep on the bench. Woods finished as EKU's leading scorer with 18 points, while Vaz anchored the interior and led the Colonels on the boards with 10 rebounds.
 
The Colonels ran away with a 103-49 win as the final buzzer sounded to move to 2-0 in league play.
 
EKU returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 8, traveling to face North Alabama in Florence, Alabama, the team's first ASUN road trip of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
