May’s Early Strike Sends EKU to First 4-0 Conference Start

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team made program history Thursday, securing its first 4-0 start to conference play with a 1-0 victory over Central Arkansas.

Avery May delivered the decisive goal in the 10th minute, recording her third game-winner of the season. May leads the UAC in game-winning goals and is tied for 29th nationally.

May has tormented opponents' defenses all season long, leading the UAC in goals and shots.

Jordan LeVasseur delivered another standout performance in goal, recording a season-high eight saves to shut out Central Arkansas. The UAC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year earned her third shutout of the season and has allowed the fewest goals in conference play.

Off to its first 4-0 start to conference play in program history, EKU ( 8-4-1, 4-0 UAC) remains the UAC's only unbeaten team. The Colonels have also gone unbeaten in their last 11 conference home matches, posting a 9-0-2 record dating back to 2024.

EKU set the tone early on both ends of the field. LeVasseur made a diving save in the ninth minute to deny a Central Arkansas shot headed for the upper-left corner.

Just a minute later, following a Central Arkansas corner kick, Regan Reilly played a long through ball down the right side of the field to May dashing. May took a few touches before driving a right-footed shot past the diving goalkeeper into the bottom-left corner.

The game-winning goal marked May's sixth of the season and Reilly's second consecutive match with an assist.

The Colonels took a 1-0 lead into halftime holding the Bears scoreless as LeVasseur recorded 6 saves in the opening 45 minutes.

EKU tightened up defensively in the second half, controlling possession and limiting Central Arkansas to only two shots on goal and two corner kicks. LeVasseur shut down any chance of a draw, walling up both shots to preserve the shutout and seal the 1-0 victory.

EKU remains at home as they host Little Rock on Sunday at 1 pm ET.
