CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team went undefeated at the Cincy Clash, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Colonels swept Morehead State 5-0 and capped the weekend with a 4-1 win over Tusculum.
GAME ONE: EKU 5, Morehead State 0
The Colonels faced stiff competition from Morehead State, with every flight going the distance to a decisive third set.
At No. 2,
Gabriella Armitage and
Elpida Pitsigkoni were first to finish, bouncing back after dropping the opening set to win the next two, 21-12 and 15-9, giving EKU early momentum.
Carlyn Mcallister and
Sutton Sales followed at No. 4, rallying after a first-set defeat to take the final two sets, 21-18 and 15-12, and secure the win.
Sami Deidesheimer and
Tatum Meinerz notched another three-set victory at the fifth flight.
After dropping the opener, they battled through a close second set, 23-21, before pulling away in the third, 15-8, to seal the match.
At the top flight,
Molly Shomock and
Riley Cutler clinched the point, rebounding after a second-set stumble and closing out the match with set wins of 21-16 and 15-12.
Amanda Floystad and
Kaiya Ward sealed the sweep at No. 3, shaking off a second-set to win the first and third sets, 21-12 and 15-8.
GAME TWO: EKU 4, Tusculum 1
The Colonels carried their momentum into the final match of the weekend, earning a 4-1 win over Tusculum.
At the second flight, Cutler and Shomock earned a straight-sets victory, 21-17, 21-19.
Floystad and Ward added another point at No. 3, winning 21-16, 21-13.
At No. 4, freshman Mcallister and Sales showed resilience in a tightly contested matchup, overcoming a slow start and outlasting their opponents in the final two sets, 23-21 and 15-13, for a hard-fought victory.
Pitsigkoni and Armitage also rallied at the top flight, shaking off an early deficit to regroup and win the final two sets, 21-16 and 15-8, securing the match for EKU.
Tusculum claimed its lone point at the fifth flight.

EKU returns to action Feb. 27-28 in Springfield, Missouri, where the Colonels are set to face Lindenwood, Missouri State, Southwest Baptist, and Central Arkansas.
