STATESBORO, Ga. — The Eastern Kentucky University softball team dropped two games Saturday, falling to Tennessee Tech, 9-0, and Georgia Southern, 5-0.

The Colonels fell to 4-9 on the season after being held scoreless in their first three games of the GATA Challenge.
 
GAME ONE - EKU 0, TENNESSEE TECH 9

Tennessee Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double to left-center.

The Golden Eagles broke the game open in the third inning, scoring three runs. A double to right-center drove in two, and another double to left-center extended the lead to 4-0.

Tennessee Tech added five more runs in the sixth inning to close out the game.

EKU left two runners on base in three different innings, including a runner stranded at third in the first.
 
GAME TWO - EKU 0, GA SOUTHERN 5

Georgia Southern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

After a walk and a double put runners in scoring position, an RBI fielder's choice and a two-run single gave the Eagles the early lead.

The Eagles added two runs in the second on an RBI single and capped the scoring with a solo home run in the fifth.

The Colonels struggled to find their rhythm at the plate, recording just two hits in the game.
 
Up next

EKU closes out the GATA Challenge on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. matchup against Rhode Island.

The teams previously met in the tournament, with Rhode Island earning a 3-0 win.
