Colonels Grab Four-Game Lead in ASUN Standings Winning 14th Straight Game

RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior forward Joseana Vaz poured in a career-high 33 points to lead the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team to a 67-60 victory over rival Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon inside Baptist Health Arena.

With the win, EKU improved to 21-4 on the season and remained perfect in Atlantic Sun Conference play at 12-0. The Colonels now hold a four-game lead in the league standings with six games remaining in the regular season.

The victory extended EKU's winning streak to 14 games since Dec. 19, 2025, the second-longest winning streak in program history, and tied the school record for consecutive conference wins at 12.

Vaz led all scorers with 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-8 effort from beyond the arc. The Praia, Cape Verde, native added six rebounds, two steals and a block, while posting the highest single-game scoring total by an EKU player in more than two years.

Freshman guard Kenleigh Woods followed with 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting while dishing out three assists. The performance marked her 14th double-figure scoring effort of the season.

As a team, EKU shot 46 percent (24-for-52) from the field, knocked down six 3-pointers and assisted on more than half of its made baskets.

Defensively, the Colonels held Austin Peay (13-9, 5-7 ASUN) to 60 points or fewer for the 10th time in 12 conference games, forcing 19 turnovers and limiting the Governors to just three fast-break points.

Austin Peay took a 14-13 lead after the opening quarter behind strong guard play. Anovia Sheals attacked the rim early, while Jim'Miyah Branton facilitated the offense with multiple assists. EKU stayed within striking distance as Vaz scored seven of the Colonels' 13 first-quarter points, including a late 3-pointer, while senior forward Ella Bradley added a key triple.

EKU took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Governors 19-13 to take a 32-27 lead into halftime. Vaz continued her strong first half with scoring inside and out, while Woods added transition baskets and drew fouls. Senior guard Althea Kara Angeles provided a spark with finishes in the paint, and sophomore Liz Freihofer buried a late 3-pointer to push the Colonels' lead to five at the break.

Vaz opened the half with a 3-pointer and continued to score at the rim, while Woods added multiple layups in traffic. Junior forward Kailani Lindsey made her presence felt on the glass and defensively, finishing with seven rebounds and converting a late putback to cap EKU's strong defensive stretch.
