Colonels Fall At No. 22 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –
EKU suffered a 10-3 loss against No. 22 ranked Tennessee on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
 
Tennessee jumped ahead quickly with a 5-run second inning.  Levi Clark drove in the first two with a single up the middle.  Trent Grindlinger and Garrett Wright had RBI singles before Blaine Brown capped it with an RBI on a ground ball.
 
EKU got on the board in the top of the fourth.  With a runner at third base, Kobe Benson doubled down the left field line to make it 5-1.  With two on and two out in the fifth, Jackson Cauthron beat out a ground ball to the second baseman and Dylan Littlefield scored to keep the margin at four, 6-2.
 
The Volunteers (15-6) pulled away with two in the sixth and two in the seventh.  Julius Scearce scored on an error in the ninth to set the final score.
 
David Alvarez went 2-for-5 for the Colonels (7-14).  Benson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
Grindlinger had a 3-for-3 game with two runs and two RBIs for Tennessee.  Manny Marin went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
 
EKU will play a 3-game series at North Alabama starting on Friday.  The opener is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
