Lions Rally Late To Clip Colonels In Series Opener

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University took a 2-run lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but North Alabama rallied to tie and then won the game 7-5 in 10 innings on Friday.
 
UNA tied it up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Will Millard hit a 2-run shot over the wall in left field.  The first three Lions reached base in the bottom of the 10th.  A force out at home plate put one out on the board, but Petey Craska doubled to right field to walk it off.
 
The Colonels (7-15, 2-2 ASUN) jumped out to a 4-1 lead.  Pedro Moreno drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the second for EKU's first run.  Silas Shaffer made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the third.
 
After the Lions (9-13, 2-2 ASUN) scored in the bottom of the third, the Colonels pushed across two in the top of the fourth.  A ground out off the bat of David Alvarez scored Kobe Benson.  Moreno scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackson Cauthron.
 
Craska made it a 4-3 game with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Moreno's solo home run in the sixth, his first of the season, put the visitors ahead by two, 5-3.  He finished 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs. 
 
Gavin Faulkner provided two innings of scoreless relief for EKU, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out one.
 
Craska went 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.  Millard had a 3-for-5 game with a run and three RBIs.
 
Game two of the set is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
