Lions Win Home Run Derby, Edge Colonels In Game Two Of Series

FLORENCE, Ala. –
Eastern Kentucky University's baseball team hit two home runs, but North Alabama hit three in an 8-5 victory on Saturday in Florence.
 
The Lions clinched the conference series win, earning a 7-5 victory in 10 innings on Friday.
 
Nash Rippen opened the scoring with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first.  EKU's Pedro Moreno got the visitors on the board with an RBI triple in the top of the third. 
 
UNA hit another 2-run shot in the fifth, this time off the bat of Wes Walker for a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Colonels (7-16, 2-3 ASUN) got into the home run game in the top of the sixth when Khaleel Pratt hit a solo shot, his second of the season to make it 4-2.  However, the Lions went right back up by three when Bryant Loving started the bottom of the sixth with a home run over the wall in left field.
 
Moreno got EKU back in the game in the top of the eighth.  After Kobe Benson started the inning with a walk, Moreno sent a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left field to make it a 1-run game, 5-4.
 
Two errors led to three North Alabama (10-13, 3-2 ASUN) runs in the bottom of the eighth.
 
David Alvarez was 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Colonels.  Moreno finished 2-for-3, with, two walks, a run and three RBIs.
 
Nash had one hit in four at bats, scored a run and drove in two.  Tripp Patterson started for the Lions and allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings.  He walked three and struck out one.
 
The series finale will be Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
