Colonels Split Opening Day at Shoals Beach Bash

Florence, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team split a pair of matchups on Friday at the Shoals Beach Bash.

The Colonels (10-7) opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Tusculum. EKU swept flights two through four before securing the final point of the match in the third set of the fifth flight.

EKU came out strong, claiming victories in the first three completed matches. The momentum began in the second flight, where Carlyn Mcallister and Gabriella Armitage earned a 21-16, 21-16 win.

Elpida Pitsigkoni and Maddie Knaak followed in the fourth flight, pulling out a tightly contested 22-20 first set before dominating the second, 21-8.

The Colonels clinched the match in the third flight as Amanda Floystad and Sutton Sales battled to a 26-24 first-set victory, then sealed it with a 21-9 win in the second set.

Sami Deidesheimer and Arilyn Lee added EKU's final victory of the day, rallying for a 19-21, 21-12, 15-13 win.

Against North Alabama, EKU fell 5-0, losing every set.

The Colonels return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET against Austin Peay before facing Spring Hill at 2 p.m.
