RICHMOND, Ky. - After opening ASUN Conference play with a 2-0 series record, the Eastern Kentucky softball team heads to Nashville for a weekend series against Lipscomb on March 28-29.
The series opens Saturday with a doubleheader, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. ET and the second game to follow at 4:30 p.m. ET.
EKU closes the series Sunday with a single game at 2 p.m ET.
Saturday's doubleheader will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats will be available throughout the weekend.
THE COLONELS
EKU enters the series at 15-15, having won its opening two conference series against Austin Peay and Bellarmine. Against the Knights, the Colonels took the first two games, including an 8-0 run-rule victory before dropping the finale.
Victoria Byrum is coming off a dominant stretch in the circle, posting a 1.17 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 12.0 innings. She allowed just two hits and two earned runs while holding batters to a .051 average.
The stretch was highlighted by a no-hitter in Game 2, where Byrum struck out 10 batters, tying her career high, while allowing just one walk.
Offensively, the Colonels scored 11 runs over the weekend, with the bulk of the damage coming in Game 2, with an 8-run effort on 12 hits, seven RBIs, and two doubles. Freshman
Claire Schreiner turned in her best performance of the season, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
EKU will look to rebound from a 2-1 loss to Bellarmine in the series finale, a game in which the Colonels did not score until the bottom of the seventh inning.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
The Bisons (9-22, 2-3 ASUN) enter the weekend after dropping their last series against Central Arkansas.
Lipscomb enters on a two-game winning streak, having defeated Tennessee State 7-3 and Central Arkansas 12-7.
Brenna Sherman leads Lipscomb at the plate, batting .305 with 29 hits, 18 runs, seven doubles, four home runs, 21 RBIs and 48 total bases.
In the circle, freshman Brooke Beam leads the staff with a 3-8 record and a 4.33 ERA, holding batters to a .340 average.
The Colonels hold a 6-4 advantage in the last 10 meetings against Lipscomb, including a 2-1 series win last season.
