Colonels Prepare for Five-Game Slate at EKU Invitational

RICHMOND, Ky. — The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will host the EKU Invitational from March 5-8.

The Colonels are scheduled to play five games in three days, welcoming IU Indy, Miami (Ohio), Delaware State and Northern Kentucky.

EKU opens the tournament Thursday with two games, first against IU Indy at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup with Miami at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the Colonels face Delaware State at 3 p.m.

EKU takes on IU Indy for the second time in the tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, then wraps up the weekend against Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Three games during the EKU Invitational will be broadcast on ESPN+: EKU's matchups with IU Indy on Thursday, Delaware State on Friday and Northern Kentucky on Sunday.

Live statistics will be available throughout the weekend.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

The Jaguars are 3-13 this season and have dropped 11 straight games.

The teams last met in 2005, when the Colonels won 4-1.

The Redhawks are 14-4 and have won nine straight games.

Miami is led by Danitza Hernandez, named MAC co-player of the week after batting .538 with six RBIs. Léa Chévrier was named co-pitcher of the week after going 2-0 with two complete games.

Delaware State enters the tournament 3-6. The schools have met just once, with EKU winning 9-0 in 2017.

Northern Kentucky is 7-6 this season. The Colonels are 5-1 in the last six meetings, but the Norse won the most recent matchup, 3-2, in 2023.
