CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Eastern Kentucky beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on opening day of the Scenic City Tournament.

The Colonels fell 4-1 to Georgia State in the first match of the day.
Gabriella Armitage and Carlyn McAllister secured EKU's lone point with a 21-13, 19-21, 15-12 victory. In the fifth flight, the Colonels were able to push it to three sets in a back-and-forth match in which Georgia State edged out, winning 16-14 in the last set.

In the second match of the day, EKU pushed North Alabama to the brink, falling 3-2.
Sami Deidesheimer and
Arilyn Lee earned the first point for the Colonels, winning 21-17, 17-21, 15-13.
Elpida Pitsigkoni and Armitage added the second point in the second flight with a 21-14, 19-21, 15-9 win. The deciding point of the match came in the No. 3 flight, where the Lions narrowly won 21-19, 21-19.

The Colonels continue to show growth as the season progresses, after being swept by Georgia State and North Alabama earlier in the year.

EKU closes out the regular season Saturday with matches against UT Martin at 10 a.m. and Chattanooga at 2 p.m., with a chance to set the program record for wins.
