RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University beat Kentucky State, 12-2, in seven innings on Tuesday at Earle Combs Stadium.

The Thorobreds grabbed the early lead with two runs in the first inning. EKU got on the board in the bottom of the first when
David Alvarez scored on a throwing error.

The Colonels (10-27) seized control with seven runs in the second inning.Â
Jackson Cauthron and
Ryan Johnson started the frame with back-to-back home runs. It was the second of the season for Cauthron and the first for Johnson.

Alvarez and
Dylan Littlefield each scored on a pair of wild pitches to cap the second and put the home team ahead 8-2.Â

KSU (10-29) did not have a hit after the third inning.Â

Gunnar Bingham's 2-run triple highlighted a 3-run third inning that gave EKU an 11-2 advantage.Â
Owen Barger's first career home run in the sixth inning made it a 10-run game. The solo shot traveled 375 feet over the wall in left field.

Johnson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Bingham was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.Â
Boone Shevey also scored twice.

Chardy Tierney came on to pitch in the top of the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded. He induced a ground ball to short that ended the game.
