Men’s Tennis Opens 2026 ASUN Championship on Wednesday Morning

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Championship and will open play against No. 5 seed Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET. Fans can follow live scoring online here.

EKU (12-14) enters the ASUN Championship having won three of its last four matches, with victories over Southern Indiana, Bellarmine and Lipscomb during the month of April. The Colonels also picked up two singles points at No. 14 Illinois on April 3.

The Colonels head into postseason play with momentum after five student-athletes earned ASUN postseason honors announced Monday by the league office.

Freshman Marek Nano was named ASUN Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team after posting a 6-3 singles record during the spring season, including a perfect 6-0 mark against mid-major opponents.

The Slovakia native is the third player in program history to earn freshman of the year honors and the first since 2013.

Senior Fernando Bulnes was selected First Team All-ASUN following a standout season in which he compiled a team-best 11-7 singles record primarily from courts No. 2 and No. 3.

The Badajoz, Spain, native recorded key wins over Middle Tennessee's Karim Al-Amin, the 2025 Conference USA Player of the Year, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 on Jan. 23, and No. 14 Illinois' Hayden Jones, 6-2, 6-4, on April 3. Both victories earned him ASUN Player of the Week honors.

Rounding out EKU's postseason winners, senior Nuno Pinheiro earned Second Team All-ASUN recognition, the second all-conference honor of his career, after recording seven wins on the Colonels' top court this spring.

Freshman Ilie Cazac was also named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team after compiling an 8-9 singles record from courts No. 3 and No. 4. Senior Kartik Parhar also earned a spot on the ASUN All-Academic list for his efforts on the court and in the classroom.

Wednesday's match marks EKU's second ASUN Championship appearance since the program was reinstated in 2022. The Colonels are seeking their first conference tournament victory since a 4-0 win over Austin Peay in 2018.

Scouting Florida Gulf Coast
No. 5 seed Florida Gulf Coast (8-13) hosts the championship and went 3-4 on its home courts this spring. The Eagles enter postseason play on a four-match losing streak, with losses to No. 68 East Tennessee State, Delaware, North Florida, and No. 70 South Florida since March 17.

FGCU is led by Second Team All-ASUN sophomore Tanner Povey, who recorded five wins this spring season from the No. 1 singles position.
