Weather Alters Weekend Schedule for Key EKU-Central Arkansas Series

RICHMOND, Ky. - With both teams tied atop the ASUN Gold Division standings, the Eastern Kentucky University softball team will host Central Arkansas in a key conference series this weekend at Gertrude Hood Field.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the weekend schedule has been adjusted. Game one is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m. and the finale to follow at 12:30 p.m. All game times remain subject to change based on weather conditions.

Sunday will also serve as Senior Day, as EKU honors its four seniors: Lilly Davis, Emma Bethel, Brooke Davis and Jaelin Haynes.

Any additional schedule changes or weather updates will be posted on ekusports.com and the EKU Softball social media accounts.

Saturday's opener will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available for all three games.

SCOUTING THE SUGAR BEARS

Central Arkansas enters the weekend 28-16 overall and 10-4 in ASUN play. The Sugar Bears hold the division tiebreaker over EKU after winning two games in the previous series matchup in Conway a few weeks ago.

In game one of that series, the Colonels fell behind early as Central Arkansas scored four runs in the first inning. EKU settled in after the second inning, allowing only two hits the rest of the way.

The Colonels mounted a late rally in the seventh, scoring three runs in the inning however  Central Arkansas, recorded the game's final out to secure the win 5-3.

In game two, EKU led most of the contest after a jumping out to a 2-0 lead midway through the fifth. Central Arkansas rallied with a two run bottom of the fifth inning before ultimately scoring the game winning run in the sixth inning. Game three was canceled because of weather.

Central Arkansas enters the series on a three-game winning streak and has won each of its last four series.

Addie Graham was recently named ASUN Player of the Week after batting .600 over three games. She collected six hits during the weekend, recorded multiple hits in two of the three games and hit a home run in game one as the Sugar Bears outscored Bellarmine 33-4 in the series.

The sophomore leads the team with a .391 batting average. She has 10 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 30 RBIs, 26 walks and 16 stolen bases.

LAST TIME OUT

The Colonels (23-19, 10-4 ASUN) enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak after sweeping North Alabama last weekend. The Lions had been in first place in the conference standings and were the last team to win a series against Central Arkansas in mid-March.

Earlier this week, EKU swept Morehead State in a doubleheader. Kennedy Drafton led the Colonels in game one, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a double.

Pitching has been a key strength for EKU this season. The Colonels lead the ASUN in conference play with a 2.76 ERA, 88 strikeouts and a .227 opponent batting average.

The Colonels look to take first place in the Gold Division with a series win as the ASUN Tournament approaches.
