Colonels Complete Comeback From 6-0 Deficit, But Can't Hold Off UNA Late

RICHMOND, Ky. –
After falling behind 6-0 in the first inning, Eastern Kentucky University came all the way back to take an 8-7 lead, but couldn't hold off North Alabama in a 11-8 loss on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
Cayden Sheffield's 3-run home run over the wall in right field capped the big 6-run first inning for the Lions (22-20, 13-7 ASUN).
 
Dylan Littlefield's single through the right side in the bottom of the first scored David Alvarez to make it a 6-1 game.  The Colonels got within two after scoring three runs in the second.  David Alvarez brought home Owen Barger with a single to right.  Khaleel Pratt followed with a bases loaded single to left that plated two runners and closed the gap to 6-4.
 
A sacrifice fly in the fourth off the bat of Pratt got the home team within one, 6-5.
 
EKU completed the comeback in the fifth.  With two outs and a runner on second, Barger tied the game, 6-6, with a single to left field.
 
North Alabama came right back and answered in the top of the sixth.  Wes Walker started the inning with a home run over the wall in right field to put his team back in front by one, 7-6.
 
The Colonels took the lead in the bottom of the sixth.  After Pedro Moreno drew a leadoff walk, Alvarez hit his fourth home run of the season.  The 2-run dinger gave EKU the lead for the first time, 8-7.
 
The exchange of home runs continued into the seventh.  With two outs and one on, Nash Rippen gave UNA the lead, 9-8, with a long ball over the wall in right center.
 
Alvarez finished 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs.  Pratt drove in three while going 1-for-3 at the plate.  Barger had a 2-for-4 game with a run and an RBI.
 
Jackson Westmoreleand went 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI for North Alabama.  Sheffield finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.
 
The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.  Sunday is Junior Colonel Club Day with members getting into the game for FREE.  Kids have a chance to be the "Play Ball" kid, guest public address announcer and can run the bases after the game.  The Kids Day Combo includes a hot dog, chips and drink for $8.
