RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University softball team travels to Chattanooga this weekend to close out the regular season with four matches at the Scenic City Showdown.
Â
Play begins Friday and continues through Saturday, with EKU set to face three opponents it has already seen this season.
Â
The tournament opens Friday at 8 a.m. ET against Georgia State. The Panthers are 13-15 this season and have faced more than eight ranked opponents. The two teams previously met at the Day of Duals tournament, where Georgia State earned a 5-0 victory.
Â
Later Friday, the Colonels take on ASUN Conference opponent North Alabama at 2 p.m. The Lions enter at 15-11 and previously defeated EKU 5-0 earlier this season. North Alabama also ended EKU's season last year, winning 3-1 in the conference tournament.
Â
On Saturday, EKU opens the day against UT Martin at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks are 9-4 this season and have played a schedule similar to the Colonels. UT Martin leads the all-time series 6-2, but EKU has won the last two meetings, including a 3-2 victory last season.
Â
The Colonels wrap up the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m. against Chattanooga. The Mocs are 13-3 and riding a program-record 13-match winning streak. The two teams met last weekend, when Chattanooga snapped EKU's undefeated weekend with a 5-0 win. Chattanooga's top pair of McKenna Faychak and Maddie Leckik are coming off their second consecutive OVC Pair of the Week honor.
Â
EKU is 8-2 in their last 10 matches and went 4-1 last weekend at the EKU Sand Fest. The Colonels enter the weekend one win shy of tying the program record for victories and will look to build momentum heading into the ASUN Tournament.
