LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University secured its second straight Atlantic Sun Conference series win with an 11-3 victory over Bellarmine on Friday. The Colonels have won the first two games of the series and six of their last eight.

EKU got off to a fast start with seven hits and five runs in the first inning. With two outs,
David Alvarez picked up where he left off on Thursday. After recording five hits in game one of the series, Alvarez singled through the left side in his first at bat of game two.Â
Khaleel Pratt then sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in right field for a 2-0 lead.

Ricco Longo and
Jackson Cauthron followed with back-to-back singles. Three more singles – from
Silas Shaffer,
Julius Scearce and
Kobe Benson – each drove in a run for a 5-0 advantage.

Alvarez and Pratt did more damage in a 3-run second inning. After
Dylan Littlefield was hit by a pitch to start the frame, Alvarez drove him in with a double to left field. Pratt followed with a triple down the right field line and then made it 8-0 after scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Jackson Cauthron.

The Knights (19-33, 11-18 ASUN) got on the board in the fourth on a solo home run from AJ Swader. The Colonels pushed the lead back to eight on a sacrifice fly from Longo in the top of the sixth.

Alvarez completed a 4-for-4 game with a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth to push the margin to 11-1. The junior outfielder was also hit by a pitch in the game, scored three times and drove in three runs. In the first two games of the series, Alvarez is 9-for-10 with five runs and eight RBIs.

Pratt had a 2-for-3 game with a walk, a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Scearce went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

EKU (17-37, 9-20 ASUN) starter
Jack Briese allowed one run on five hits in five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Eli Watson was the only Knight with more than one hit, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
