EKU Secures Draw in Rainy Battle at NKU

Two first-half goals from Wolf and Reilly help EKU secure draw.

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team scored twice in the first half to earn a 2-2 draw against Northern Kentucky in a rain-soaked match Thursday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.

The Colonels (4-3-1) built an early 2-0 advantage behind goals from sophomore midfielder Emma Wolf and Robin Reilly, who made her first career start.

Junior goalkeeper Ruby Morgan recorded a season-high five saves, including two in the final six minutes to preserve the draw.

Northern Kentucky controlled 56% of the possession and finished with a 19-8 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

EKU opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Rachel Phifer sent a ball into the box that was deflected toward the back post, where Wolf tapped it home for her second goal of the season.

The Colonels doubled their lead in the 26th minute when Avery May played a long through ball to Reilly, who finished the one-on-one opportunity past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.

Northern Kentucky cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 39th minute, sending EKU into halftime with a 2-1 advantage. The Colonels outshot the Norse 8-2 during the opening 45 minutes.

It was a tale of two halves, as Northern Kentucky's offense came alive with 17 shots in the second half while holding EKU without an attempt.

The Norse found the equalizer in the 81st minute, tapping home a rebound after the initial shot struck the woodwork.

With the match tied, Morgan made two saves in the final six minutes to secure the 2-2 draw for the Colonels.
