Abby Owings was named assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, by head coach Greg Todd on June 14, 2021. 

"I feel Abby is one of the finest young recruiting coordinators in the nation. Her tireless work ethic and positive energy makes her a very valuable asset in our program." said Todd.
 
In her first season with the Colonels, Owings helped guide the team to a 15-16 showing in EKU’s inaugural season in the ASUN. The program made its first appearance in the ASUN conference tournament quarterfinals, defeating Kennesaw State in the opening round at home. Abby was named the recruiting coordinator on Coach Todd’s staff, helping bring in his first class consisting of four DI transfers in Mackins, Kirkwood, Rainey, Walker, and Williams.
 
Before joining EKU, Abby was an assistant coach under Chance Dugan with the 2020-21 Bellarmine women’s basketball staff and helped the program in its transition to NCAA DI basketball. In her lone season with the Knights, Owings assisted all facets of the program and the team to ASUN conference wins over Stetson, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville, and North Alabama.
 
Prior to her stint at Bellarmine, Owings spent the 2019-20 season at Shawnee State as an assistant, helping head coach Jeff Nickels’ program to a 29-4 overall record and a Mid-South Conference Tournament title. Abby played a huge role in developing Bailey Cummins (All-Conference Player of the Year) and Brandie Snow, who were both named All-Americans.
 
After her playing days, Abby started her coaching career as a graduate assistant for Greg Todd at Morehead State during the 2018-19 season. Owings assisted the program to a 24-11 record and second place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference, making an appearance in the second round of the WNIT Tournament where the Eagles defeated Ohio State. Abby played a huge role in the recruiting efforts and facilitating summer elite camps during her time with MSU.
 
Owings departed Thomas More in 2018 as the all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,789 points, two NCAA DIII National Championships, and three DIII final four appearances. Abby ended her senior campaign totaling a career record of 124-3 overall and 72-0 in conference play. 
 
As a junior, Abby led the team to another appearance in the NCAA DIII Tournament, a nod to the WBCA All-American team, and a run in the NCAAs for the third-straight season. Assisted the team to wins over No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 14 Maryville (Tenn.), notched 1,000 career points finishing the season with a 28-1 overall record. 
 
Again in her sophomore season, Thomas More had an unblemished record of 33-0 with Abby as the starting point guard, ending the season as NCAA DIII National Champions and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team. Earning another nod to the D3Hoops.com All-America team after averaging 15 points per game and 155 assists.
 
Abby began her collegiate career with Thomas More and quickly helped elevate the team to championship standard. As a freshman, was named D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year, second team All-Great Lakes, fourth team All-American. She averaged 11.1 points per game while helping the team to a 33-0 record and her first NCAA DIII National Championship.
 
Owings, a native of Independence, Ky., earned a bachelor’s degree in educational studies and communication at Thomas More in 2018.
