Long was named a first team All-American by the Sports Network in early January, marking the fifth straight year a Colonel football player has been named a first or second team All-American.
EKU’s place kicker the last four years, Long concluded his Colonel career as the program’s all-time leader in kicking points (285). The native of Hopkinsville, Ky., made 20 field goals this fall which ranks second nationally at the NCAA Division I FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) level. During one stretch this fall, Long converted 13 straight field goals including the overtime game-winner against Austin Peay on Sept. 27. Long then booted a career-best 50-yard field goal in the win over Eastern Illinois on Oct. 25.
Long, a first team All-OVC pick, converted 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) of his field goal attempts this year and finished second in the league in scoring at 7.3 points per game. Long shares the program record for field goals made (49) with Dale Dawson (1983-86) and owns the program record in PATs (138).
