Eastern Kentucky University freshman Alex Jones was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time on Monday, Feb. 22. Jones scored 34 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Lady Colonels to a 12-point victory at Morehead State. 
 
The Elizabethtown, Ky., native was also chosen as the OVC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season.
 
Jones went 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the field and 10-for-11 (90.9 percent) from the free throw line. Her 34 points bettered her previous career-high of 26 against Bethune-Cookman earlier this season. She had three assists, a block and a steal to go along with her career-best 18 rebounds, three more than her previous high.
 
With the Lady Colonels leading by three with a minute left in the game, Jones went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and scored seven of Eastern’s final nine points to put the game away. She scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the second half. 
 
Jones set career-highs for points, rebounds, field goals, field goals attempted, free throws and free throws attempted. The double-double was her sixth of the season
