Clarksville, Tenn. - Junior
Liz Guard tallied 20 kills off a career-high .769 hitting percentage to lead the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Austin Peay on Friday night.
Guard took 26 errorless swings in reaching 20-or-more kills for the third time this year. Her .769 hitting percentage is the highest mark by an OVC player so far in the 2004 season. Eastern Kentucky (12-3, 3-0 OVC) picked up its fourth-straight win (all by sweep) by outhitting the Lady Govs .351 to .136.
Senior
Lesley Aldridge chipped in 16 kills in the win, allowing her to move into sole possession of ninth place on the school's all-time kills list (1,108). The Colonels tallied 63 kills over the three-game set, with freshman
Amy Arlinghaus chipping in 10.
The Colonels entered the match ranked second in the nation with a 20.81 digs-per-game average and more than matched that against Austin Peay, registering 77 digs over the three games (25.67 average). Freshman
Brittany Nobilio, who leads the OVC in digs, paced all players with a match-high 23. Sophomore
Kelly Jennings added 18 digs to go along with 55 assists, while sophomore
Jessica Sabath and junior
Libby Schleisman tallied eight a piece.
Sophomore
Kasha Brozek enjoyed a solid night, totaling seven kills (.357 hitting percentage), five digs and a match-high four blocks (two solos, two assists).
Austin Peay (4-10, 1-2 OVC) got a 12-kill, 10-dig double-double from senior Julie Buckhalter in the losing effort, while Sarah Schramka chipped in nine kills and 14 digs.
The Colonels return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 5 p.m. match at Tennessee Tech.
