Ingles Paces EKU to 80-64 Win Over Savannah State with 13 Points as Colonels Move to 8-1 on the Season

Savannah, GA -- Junior guard Zach Ingles' 13 points paced four double-digit scorers for coach Travis Ford's Eastern Kentucky University Colonels as EKU upped its season's record to 8-1 with an 80-64 victory over homestanding Savannah State University Monday night.

Eastern raced out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and never looked back in making it a sweep over the SSU Tigers this season. (EKU had beaten Savannah State, 87-59, earlier this year in Richmond.)

After leading 46-22 at the break, EKU upped that margin to as many as 31 points (69-38) with 8:50 left in the game before emptying the bench as all 14 Colonel players that dressed saw action.

"We're a little disappointed, although we got what we wanted and that's a win," said Ford. "We could have played better.

"We played some guys that normally don't get to play too much toward the end and these guys need to learn to take advantgage of their opportunities. They need to fight through making some mistakes and start playing better."

Junior guard Matt Witt added 12 points and 10 assists for Eastern, making it his third collegiate double-double. Junior guard Jason McLeish also scored 12, eight of those coming in the second stanza, while senior forward Michael Haney netted 10 points.

Haney grabbed seven rebounds to bring his career total at Eastern to 600. He also moved to 991 career points with his 10 tonight.

Hird led Eastern with eight rebounds, but the Colonels were outboarded, 50-36. EKU hit 50.8 percent from the field to just 33.8 percent shooting by the Tigers, who fell to 0-14 with the loss. Sherrard Reddick and Lazarius Coleman each scored 13 points for the Tigers.

Eastern, who began a seven-game road tour tonight plays at the University of Florida Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7:00 p.m EST.

"Florida is very, very deep and very talented, but we'll throw the ball up and see what happens," said Ford.
