Colonels Go Perfect 4-0 At Duquesne/RMU Invitational

Aldridge now fifth on school's

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Eastern Kentucky volleyball team completed its stay at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational with a perfect 4-0 showing after picking up wins over Duquesne and Georgia State on Saturday.

EKU (4-1) opened the day with a 3-1 win over the Dukes, fueled by a 20-kill effort from junior Liz Guard. In their final match of the event, the Colonels went ahead two games to none against Georgia State before seeing the Lady Panthers fight back to force a decisive game five. But Eastern recovered to pick up their third five-game win of the tournament with a 15-13 victory in the final set, despite hitting .080 as a team over the last game.

The win over Georgia State marked the 699th victory in the history of the EKU volleyball programs. The Colonels will go for number 700 win they return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 7, with their home opener against Marshall at 7 p.m.

After that, Eastern will welcome East Tennessee State, Evansville and Lipscomb to Richmond for the Nike/Comfort Suites Classic (Sept. 10-11).

Eastern Kentucky 3, Duquesne 1
(30-23, 29-31, 30-25, 31-29)

The Colonels opened up Saturday's action with a 3-1 win over tournament co-host Duquesne in a match in which the Dukes mustered a mere .139 hitting percentage against the EKU defense. Eastern totaled 14 team blocks, led by a team-high seven from senior Kasha Brozek (two solos, five assists), who added 11 kills and eight digs to the cause.

Guard was instrumental in the win, registering a match-high 20 kills and a .459 hitting percentage, as well as six blocks.

EKU's other captain, senior Lesley Aldridge, recorded her fourth-straight double-double, an 18-kill, 23-dig performance. The 18 kills pushed her career total over 900, while her 23 digs allowed her to move past former Colonel Becky Klein (1,139 career digs) and into fifth place on the school's all-time digs list with 1,148. Aldridge also came away with a career-best six block assists in the win.

For the third-straight match, freshman Brittany Nobilio topped 30 digs, tallying a match-high 31. Nobilio and Aldridge were two of four Colonels to get at least 18 digs in the victory. Joining the pair were sophomores Jessica Sabath (20 digs) and Kelly Jennings (18 digs), who also totaled 59 assists and a match-best four aces.

Freshman Amy Arlinghaus rounded out EKU's attack with 12 kills in reserve.

(30-28, 30-24, 26-30, 31-33, 15-13)

Jennings' career-high 67 assists helped guide the Colonel offense to their fourth win of the tournament. Aldridge came up with her second "20-20" double-double of the year, recording a match-high 26 kills to go along with 21 digs. She now has a double-double in each of the Colonels' five matches.

Arlinghaus enjoyed the best match of her short EKU career, registering her first double-double by posting career bests of 16 kills and 25 digs. She was one of three players, along with Aldridge and Sabath (20 digs), to reach 20 digs in the win.

Guard again posted the team's highest attack percentage, tallying 21 kills off a .347 mark. She and Brozek led the squad with six blocks a piece.

Junior Libby Schleisman accounted for a career-high 12 digs in the win, though the Lady Panthers held a 130-94 advantage in that category, thanks to 45 from Christen Garcia.
