NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Junior Jessica Sabath tallied a season-high 26 digs but it was not enough as the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team fell to Tennessee State Friday night, 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 33-31). The loss snapped a four-match Colonel win-streak.
Sabath led EKU (15-6, 7-2) with 12 kills and sophomore Brittany Nobilio added 23 digs, eclipsing 1,000 for her career.
The Lady Tigers (16-8, 8-1) led a close game one most of the way until the Colonels took the lead at 21-20 on a kill from senior Liz Guard (11 kills). But with the game tied at 28, TSU got a kill from Kelly Davis and then a block from Davis and Meesha Jackson to take the 1-0 lead.
Game two was close as well but after overcoming an early 2-0 deficit, the Lady Tigers did not trail again, hitting .262 while holding the Colonels to an attack percentage of .145 in the five-point victory.
The Colonels did not go quietly in game three, building a seven-point advantage at 25-18 on a block from Guard and sophomore Shelly George. But TSU scored the next seven points, tying it on another block from Davis and Jackson. EKU had a chance to win, but a Smith kill tied the score at 29 and after holding off a couple game, and match, points, the Colonels finally fell on a kill from Tiana Maua.
Four players had double digit kills for the Lady Tigers (16-8, 8-1), led by Davis with 15. Kara Keifer added 12 while Erika Godbolt and Tiana Maua had 10 each. The TSU defensive effort was led by senior Katrelle Armwood with 46 digs
