Colonels Ease Past West Virginia Wesleyan, 88-46

RICHMOND, Ky. – In its home opener, the Eastern Kentucky men's basketball team cruised to an 88-46 victory over Division II foe West Virginia Wesleyan Monday night in McBrayer Arena. With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-3 while the Bobcats fall to 0-6.

Trailing 11-8 five minutes into the contest, Eastern Kentucky bounced back with 14 straight points to take control of the game. Three-pointers by senior Jason McLeish and Michael Brock highlighted the Eastern run. The Colonels then held West Virginia Wesleyan scoreless in the final 6:23 of the half and took a commanding 47-20 lead into intermission.

Eastern shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the floor in the second 20 minutes of action with the Bobcats getting no closer than 25 points the rest of the way.

Senior Matt Witt moved into EKU's top 10 all-time scoring list with 20 points versus the Bobcats. He now has 1,354 points for his career. McLeish led three other Colonels in double figures with 18 on 77.8 percent (7-of-9) shooting.

Sophomore Brian Inge paced West Virginia Wesleyan with 16 points while sophomore Chris Smith pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Eastern has now won eight consecutive home openers dating back to the 1997-98 season.

The Colonels return to action this Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Battle of the Bluegrass against rival Western Kentucky. Eastern will play host to WKU in McBrayer Arena for the first time in 11 years at 7 p.m. West Virginia Wesleyan will next play at Charleston (W.Va.) on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
