RICHMOND, Ky. – Junior Jessica Sabath, senior Liz Guard and sophomore Amy Arlinghaus each had 12 kills as the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team swept Morehead State 3-0, (30-15, 30-15, 30-16) Wednesday night at McBrayer Arena. The victory marked the Colonels 25th consecutive home win.
The Colonels hit a season-best .450 while holding Morehead State to an .089 hitting percentage. Individually, Guard finished with a season-high .750 attack percentage while Sabath hit. 500 and also added a match-high 14 digs.
The Colonels scored seven of the first eight points of game one and never looked back, cruising to the 15-point victory. The Colonels hit .630 with Sabath tallying a game-high five kills in the opening game.
Morehead State scored the first two points of game two, but EKU scored eight of the next nine points and never trailed again, hitting .429 and holding MSU to a -.026 hitting percentage to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Colonels completed the sweep with a 30-16 victory in game three.
The Eagles were led by Kelsey Cronin who tallied a team-high 10 kills and 10 digs.
The Colonels play their final home match of the season Saturday, Nov. 12, hosting Tennessee Tech at 5 p.m. EKU's two seniors, Liz Guard and Libby Schleisman, will be honored before the match. Eastern will clinch at least share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title and the number one seed in the upcoming OVC Tournament with a victory.
