CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Four players finished in double figures and host Southeast Missouri outrebounded the Eastern Kentucky men's basketball team, 46-29, Monday night on its way to a 68-62 victory over the Colonels. With the win, the Redhawks (5-7, 2-4 OVC) snap a four-game losing streak to EKU (5-7, 2-3).
Senior Jason McLeish tied a career high with 21 points while fellow senior Matt Witt added 19, but the Colonels couldn't overcome a 32-22 halftime deficit.
Eastern quickly cut the deficit to just three points, 36-33, early in the second half thanks to three-pointers by Witt and freshman Harrison Brown. A few minutes later, junior Michael Brock's trifecta got the Colonels to within one point, 42-41.
A couple of SEMO layups pushed the spread back to five before four straight points by senior Alonzo Hird made the score, 46-45. Two offensive rebounds by the Redhawks on their next possession allowed Roy Booker to hit a key three-pointer to push Southeast Missouri's lead back up to four points.
Three-pointers by Paul Paradoski and Eric Burton kept the Colonels at bay before the Redhawks converted 8-of-14 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Booker paced Southeast Missouri with 18 points while Andrais Thornton posted a double-double (12 points, 13 rebounds).
Eastern Kentucky returns home to face defending OVC regular season champ Tennessee Tech this Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7:30 p.m.
