Volleyball Blanks UT Martin 3-0

Colonels celebrate Senior Day

RICHMOND, Ky. - Senior Kelly Jennings recorded a triple-double as the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team defeated UT Martin 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-27) today in McBrayer Arena. With the win, their fifth consecutive conference victory, Eastern Kentucky improves to 14-12, 7-5 in the league while the Skyhawks drop to 16-10, 5-7 in the conference.

With 43 assists, Jennings moved into second place in the OVC record books for career assists, surpassing the previous mark of 5,284. Jennings needs just 86 more to become the conference's all-time assist leader. In addition, she added 10 kills and 10 digs for the triple-double performance.

The Colonels four seniors, Kasha Brozek, Denise Grundhoefer, Jennings and Jessica Sabath were recognized prior to start of their final home match.

Sabath added a double-double with 13 kills and a match-best 19 digs.

After 13 tie scores in the first game, the final coming at 23-23, Eastern Kentucky built a three-point lead following a Skyhawk attack error and consecutive kills from Mustard. UT Martin got back within one point but the Colonels scored four of the next five points, all from kills, to take the win.

In the second contest, Eastern Kentucky controlled the tempo from the start, building a quick 7-3 lead before the Skyhawks called a timeout. The Colonels doubled UT Martin's score for the first time at 14-7 off a Jennings' kill. The Skyhawks used three straight points to set the score at 22-16 but Eastern responded with four consecutive points of their own before cruising to the eight-point win.

Falling behind by seven points (22-15), Eastern Kentucky battled back, scoring six straight points, off two kills and four Skyhawk mistakes, to even the score at 24. With tie scores at both 26 and 27, the Colonels earned the win with three consecutive kills from Brozek, Grundhoefer and Mustard, respectively.

Taylor Noland led the visitors with a match-high 17 kills.

The Colonels are back in action on November 3 when they face Austin Peay in Clarksville at 8 p.m.
